While I was in my office, I heard a young man shouting in the hallway, and suddenly a man and a woman entered. They came from another governorate, holding in their arms a twenty-year-old girl who was swearing and shouting in a harsh voice, as if a man was speaking inside her. After a while, she calmed down and her soft voice returned…!!

The man – who is the girl’s uncle – said to me: Thank God this condition came to you so that you can see it with your own eyes, Doctor…!!

The family was educated, but nevertheless convinced that their daughter was bewitched. They said that someone had proposed to her and she had rejected him and threatened revenge, and that a genie had taken power over her, and that the male voice that suddenly came out of her was the voice of the genie, as more than one sheikh confirmed to them..!!

I told them: ok, as long as you are 100% convinced that it is magic, why didn’t you continue to address this with the sheikhs?!
The uncle said, “Unfortunately, Doctor, she didn’t respond. We took her to the readers and sheikhs, and before that she was on psychiatric medication, and they said she had schizophrenia, and that didn’t do anything for her. We said more, see what you think!!

I began a journey of careful investigation into the girl’s history, her childhood and her surroundings. I have reviewed all of his tests, including EEG and MRI scans, more than once. Then, after observing her behavior and reactions to my conversations with her during two separate visits, I noticed that I was confronting two very different identities, right down to the tone of voice. However, it is not a gene. Rather, it is a dissociative identity disorder with altered identity characteristics (Dissociative Identity Characteristics / DID Spectrum), which is a known disorder in neuropsychiatry..!!

The young girl was a victim of early childhood trauma, the domestic violence she experienced daily, chronic tensions and loss of security, then the cruel separation of her parents. When a child is surrounded by fear, they have no choice but to confront it, but their brain resorts to a deep defense mechanism: separation. It separates from pain and memory and creates a tightly closed internal repository of trauma for many years. However, after puberty and between the ages of 18 and 25, psychological maturity is complete and the frontal cortex reaches the peak of its construction, social pressures increase and relationships, the future, studies, hope and brokenness strike at the same time, pulling back the covers and letting out the sleeping traumas!!

Even this male voice is not the voice of a genius, but rather a part of herself, another violent identity created within her to take revenge for the pain she experienced as a child..!!

I advised them to go to a psychiatric center to receive targeted trauma treatment and behavioral therapy with the aim of gradually integrating their identities, and they obeyed with full conviction after we hit the myth in their minds with an accurate scientific description of his condition…!!
